Though fabled for centuries as clandestine movers and shakers of European and world events-alongside the Knights Templar and the Freemasons-evidence for its authenticity is shaky. But that doesn't mean that later organizations haven't claimed the name, or that libraries of words haven't been written about them. Waite, a preeminent 19th-century expert in esoterica, here surveys all the literature necessary for understanding the roots of the Rosicrucians, whether they are real or fantasy. This volume, first published in 1887, includes translations of the 17th-century German documents at the foundation of the story of the Rosicrucians as well as a comprehensive survey of literature about the Rosicrucians. • [ recommended ] Initiation, Human and Solar (119 pages) synopsis This book addresses some essential spiritual and esoteric ideas. Its theme is that of initiation, or spiritual crisis--moments of spiritual realisation and evolutionary change. In many ways this theme is the centre and essence of all spiritual study, because the spiritual crises, or initiations, that all beings experience are the great moments of their existence and, in many ways, embody and express the purpose and meaning and quality of that existence. Menschliche und solare Einweihung (German) (127 pages)
  • Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle by Alice Bailey & Djwhal Khul (100 pages)
  • Letters on Occult Meditation (196 pages) Most readers know already that meditation comes in many "forms". This book talks literally of these forms and the "principles" behind a large many of them and fits them into the groupings of the 7 rays. A "form" is a construction in thought matter, and the book explains that whatever kind of meditation you do constructs this as a bridge between the lower and higher self.
  • Eine Abhandlung über Weisse Magie 344 pages (German) This book deal with theurgy. It is built on 15 rules of white magic which explain the ascent of the student up to Adepthood. Each "rule" has a seed-sentence which embodies the whole chapter. Through a series of purification allied to knowledge of inner and outer universal structure, one must to climb up the ladder which leads to Initiation.
  • Vom Intellekt zur Intuition (88 pages) From Intellect to Intuition (German) In this work, Alice A. Bailey deals with one of the most important aspects of esoteric science. It speaks of how to develop the tool to understand the essence of Nature. Have not you ever poised those questions to yourself: "If everything was created by God, who created Him?"; "What is the meaning of existence?"; "If God is good, why does not He shatter all evil?"; etc. The answer for all those questions can be drawn from sacred scriptures, no doubt! But they remain incomplete for, if you want them really, you have to use a spout in order to drink from the same source which drank the writers of the holy scriptures. It is only possible through intuition, a higher human faculty above intellect. This books speaks methodically of the essence and nature of intuition and how to develop it.

Anton LaVey + profile

  • The Satanic Bible (99 pages) synopsis A founder of the Church of Satan explains its philosophies of indulgence and freedom, and discusses Satanic rituals. The Satanic Bible claims the heritage of a horde of evil deities--Bile', Dagon, Moloch, and Yao Tzin to name a few--but these ancient gods have no coherent connection between each other or to Satanism, except that all have been categorized by Christianity as "evil." Calling on these ancient names like a magician shouting, "Abracadabra," LaVey attempts to shatter the classical depiction of Satanism as a cult of black mass and child sacrifice. As the smoke clears, he leads us through a surprisingly logical argument in favor of a life focused on self-indulgence. The Satanic Bible is less bible and more philosophy (with a few rituals thrown in to keep us entertained), but this philosophy is the backbone of a religion that, until LaVey entered the scene, was merely a myth of the Christian church. It took LaVey, and The Satanic Bible, to turn this myth into a legitimate public religion.

  • The Satanic Rituals (120 pages) synopsis Pages of hidden literature, Rituals, Enchantments, Talisman, Beverages, Magic Formulas, Secrets, Invocations, Pacts, Stamps and other forms of Black Arts.

  • Legend and Reality (10 pages) compiled by his daughter Zeena and Nikolas Schreck February 2, 1998

Carroll Ruyon

  • Carroll "Poke" Runyon - Book of Solomon's Magick (243 pages) @500 This book presents unique and effective practical methods for invoking angels into a crystal ball and evoking spirits to visible appearance in a dark mirror. It is the companion book to "The Magick of Solomon" video produced by the same author. The techniques taught in this system are hypnotic and subjective. No special psychic talents are required to master this system. The author guides the reader step-by-step to proficiency in the ancient art of Magick.

  • Poke Runyon - The Magick of Solomon (521MB zipped movie file) @500 Companion to the above book. An 80 minutes video documentary written and narrated by anthropologist and ceremonial magician, Carroll "Poke" Runyon, Magister of America's oldest continually operating Magical Lodge, the Ordo Templi Astartes (O.T.A.). The first part of the video offers a history of Western Magick, illustrated with graphics and displays, setting forth the author's theory, based on his own research and experiments, that visions of spirits obtained by magicians in medieval times were subjective and hypnotic rather than hysterical hallucinations. Runyon holds that the practical technique for achieving this was the visual distortion which occurs when a person stares at his or her reflection in a dark mirror. This technique is demonstrated and visions are simulated. The relationship of the "72 Rebellious Spirits" contained in King Solomon's legendary "Brass Vessel" to the Holy Angels who control them is explained and a hypnotic method for invoking these Angels into a Crystal Ball is demonstrated. According to the narrator, these two systems should be integrated for a proper spiritual balance. The video climaxes with the presentation of a complete Goetia Evocation Operation, in full ceremonial regalia, summoning the spirit Astaroth (actually the Canaanite Goddess, Astarte) to visual appearance in the dark mirror on the Triangle of Art.

  • Poke Runyon - Dark Mirror of Magick (477MB zipped movie file) @500 On January 3rd, 2001, documentary writer/producer Wayne Darwen brought a professional T.V. news crew into the inner sanctum of The Order of the Temple of Astarte to record a remarkable phenomenon: the summoning of the ancient spirit Vassago. Early in February an edited version of Vassago's mysterious Prophecy was broadcast by the Los Angeles affiliate of a National T.V. Network, confirming that the spirit had predicted a major news event: only 13 days after the ritual had been audio-visually recorded, President Laurent Kabila of the Congo was assassinated! In this video version we show you the entire operation in sequence, exactly as it happened with no rehearsals and no retakes. Wayne Darwen also interviews the Magister Thabion (Poke Runyon) and the mystic seer Frater Solomon. Their unrehearsed answers to his probing questions leave no doubt as to the philosophical depth and spiritual power of Solomon's ancient Magick even in this modern age. This is an entirely new and original production. In "The Magick of Solomon" video we dramatically reenacted magical rituals for instructive purposes, whereas "Dark Mirror of Magick" is the record of an actual magical operation of historical significance. We believe that this remarkable documentary will be studied and commented on for years to come.

  • Poke Runyon - The Rites of Magick (461MB zipped movie file) @500 In The Rites of Magick we introduce the Western counterpart to Tantric yoga in which qabalistic-planetary spheres are developed within the body in a similar manner to the chakras of the East. In Pathworkings we take you through the Dark Mirror on an astral journey to one of these inner spheres. In Seasonal Ceremonies we show you one of our first performances (1974) of the Goddess Astarte’s journey to the underworld from the myths of ancient Canaan. The cast includes Pagan elder Joseph Wilson, and the original founders of the Neo-Pagan Movement in America, Frederick Adams and Lady Svetlana of Feraferia. Following this historical footage we present a (2004) dramatic torchlight rendition of our Summer Solstice rite in which the Green Man is slain by the Dark Lord in an ancient Phoenician myth drama. In the Communion of the Elements we again return to 1974 for an early version of this rite, followed by a totally silent and masked presentation, accompanied by organ music, performed in 2003. We believe we have the first visually recorded presentation of an Enochian Watchtower Opening ceremony. After a brief history and explanation of the system we enter the temple where all five Enochian Tablets are displayed. The operator opens each in turn, concluding with the Portal Call before the Tablet of Union. Our bonus feature is a short fantasy about mad alchemist determined to create an elixir that will restore his disfigured face to its original appearance. It’s Hieronymus Bosch meets Salvador Dali on film. In conclusion I explain that our particular school of magick is based on the 18th century rite of Crata Repoa and that we are of the ancient Hermetic Tradition. We believe that this production will be of considerable interest to students of the occult, magick, Neo-Paganism, cultural anthropology and avant-garde religion.

Cornelius Agrippa + profile

Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy synopsis is the single most important text in the history of Western occultism. Occultists have drawn upon it for five centuries, although they rarely give it credit. First published in Latin in 1531 and translated into English in 1651, it has never been reprinted in its entirety since. Photocopies are hard to find and very expensive. Now, for the first time in 500 years, Three Books of Occult Philosophy will be presented as Agrippa intended.

  • Ceremonial Magic & The Power of Evocation: A System of Personal Power (204 pages) @300 synopsis For centuries, the ceremonial evocation of spiritual beings has been Magic's darkest corner. Reputed to fulfill the Magician's material desires, evocation has been the topic of the most famous Grimoires---the Grammars of Magic. From the Sworn Book of Honorius the Magician, to the Greater Key of Solomon and the Goetia; from the Grand Grimoire, to the complete treatise of the Lemegeton, all give direct, yet difficult, directions to the individual desiring to have the 'good life' in the here-and-now. But the simplest of Grimoires, the Heptameron of Peter de Abano, has escaped the attention of modern Ceremonialists. Its simplicity and power in summoning the Aerial Spirits is second to none. Ceremonial Magic lays bare the operation of the Heptameron. Its Magical Axioms, extensive Commentaries, copious notes, and personal instructions to the reader---all gained from Dr. Lisiewski's forty-years of study and practice in Ceremonial Magic---make this a resource that no serious student of Magic can afford to be without. It is all here, as in no other Grimoire. Use its instructions and the world of evocation and personal gratification are well within your grasp!

  • Mysteria Magica @500cr (439 pages) synopsis A complete system of Magick, Mysteria Magica reveals essential and advanced teachings in terms that even newcomers can follow, with a richness of inspiration embraced by experienced mages. Mysteria Magica explores the core of Ceremonial Magick-the inner system of symbolism, philosophy, and spiritual technology. It shows how and why ritual acts can lead to their desired result in the "Principles of Ceremonial" section. This comprehensive work also presents a formal traditional education in the key elements of High Magick: sigils; telesmata; consecration; protection; and Enochian rituals and techniques, including proper pronunciation of the Enochian language. Designed for individual or group use, Mysteria Magica contains the most vital procedures of High Magick with authentic texts and formulae.

  • Guide pratique du voyage hors du corps (63 pages) Astral Projection Kit (French)  This a great "how to" regarding astral projection. It was written by Melita Denning and Osborne Phillips -- authors of the high standing "Mysteria Magica" which made public high ceremonial magic techniques in Western Mystery Tradition -- who have helped to spread the name Aurum Solis, of which they were students.
The author distinguish four type of OBE:
    - involuntary and unconscious
    - involuntary and conscious
    - voluntary and unconscious
    - voluntary and conscious
The reader will learn to deal with the fourth type. It is important to note, though, that the other stages have their function in the science of magic -- for this, the reader could have aid from the above mentioned book. Their method starts by cultivation of friendliness with your lower being. In other words, self esteem. The reader has to get intimacy with this deck for the astral projection is not something mental, according to the author, astral projection has to do with emotions, therefore, non-rational movement. The next step is charging the chakras. Finally, the technique used is the Body of Light. It is a vehicle which must be built and will be used to carry one's consciousness to whatever one wants.

  • Denning & Phillips - The Aurum Solis Initiation Ceremonies and Inner Magical Techniques (230 pages) @300cr Both above the level of rationality and below it, there exist for us vital and purposeful areas of psychic activity which are frequently termed "unconscious", not because they are unconscious at their own levels but because the rational mind is unconscious of them. One of the major results to be sought, whether in magical training, in meditation, or for the matter of that in psychotherapy, is to push back the misty boundaries of unconsciousness, both higher and lower. That achieved, the conscious mind is more widely able to recognise the influences which affect it, to understand them and very frequently control them, and so is able to take more intelligent responsibility in the life of the person. In this book, the keys to this process as employed in the initiatory rites of the Order Aurum Solis are revealed in detail for the first time. These ceremonies of initiation, together with inner magical techniques required for proper performance of the works, are capable of leading the aspirant from the portal of the mysteries to the heights of magical attainment. The structure and consecration of an Aurum Solis temple are likewise presented, together with details of vestments and regalia; and the major inner symbolism of the Ogdoadic Tradition of the Western Mysteries is set forth. This significant work, prepared by the Grand Master of the Order, is a full and vital revelation of the outer and inner initiatory technology of the Aurum Solis, and stands as a guide to the magical potential and the power of the Ogdoadic Tradition.

  • Denning & Phillips - Vol. 1 - The Foundations of High Magick: The Magical Philosophy (366 pages) @500cr There are many books available for those who wish to learn the way of ritual magick- but few books for those who wish to learn the philosophy behind it, without having to contend with the opinions of often overbearing (Crowley), dogmatic (Fortune), muddle-headed (Regardie), or overly cautious (Kraig) writers. This book not only teaches pure Qabalistic and Hermetic thought, but insightfully and lucidly ties in connections to Oriental, Native American, and even the often overlooked ideas of those anomalous American Transcendentalists, such as Emerson and Whitman. There's no strange yoga, badly-translated words of mystic power, or misunderstood mythology- only the finest piece of magical literature availiable today. If you're a psychologist interested in exploring the transpersonal realms, a layperson wanting to explore spirituality beyond the confines of exoteric religion, a pagan interested in exploring a more reason-oriented spirituality searching for answers - this book is for you.

  • Denning & Phillips - Vol .2 - The Sword and the Serpent:The Two-Fold Qabalistic Universe (456 pages) @500cr The Sword & The Serpent: The Two-Fold Qabalistic Universe is a reference book, and a hands-on book for working with Magick and the Qabala. It helpful for understanding the structure of Qabala in relation to the Tarot.

  • Denning & Phillips - Vol. 3 - Mysteria Magica (430 pages) @500cr synopsis A complete system of Magick, Mysteria Magica reveals essential and advanced teachings in terms that even newcomers can follow, with a richness of inspiration embraced by experienced mages. • Dogma et Rituel de la Haute Magie Part I (123 pages)

  • Dogma et Rituel de la Haute Magie Part II (153 pages)

  • [ recommended ] Transcendental Magic (275 pages) This is Eliphas Levi's (1810-1875) best-known book. This work arguably made Levi THE most influential writer on magic since the Renaissance. Originally issued in French, the English translator is A.E. Waite and it is doubtful that anyone else could have better captured the essence of Levi's work. The book is divided in two parts; the first is theoretical, the second practical. This is a fascinating and often debated work. Part I & II. Eliphas Levi's tour de force on the theory and practice of magic. Part 1 covers theory, and attempts to reconcile the traditional interpretations of magic and religion with the emphasis on Reason and Knowledge of Levi's own day. The reconciliation doesn't succeed, but Levi's understanding of the traditional viewpoint is strong enough to make this work valuable. Part II covers the practical aspects of magic.

  • The Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum (42 pages) Eliphas Lévi (1810–1875) was the greatest innovator in the revival of Western occultism, most significantly with his great leap of imagination that linked the tarot trumps to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. He set out this tarot theory in his book Transcendental Magic, but never revealed its magical application. This was finally made public in 1896 when Dr. Westcott—creator of the Golden Dawn—translated and printed Levi’s secret manuscript. This book aligns the major arcana symbolism with a detailed description of the ritual of the sanctum regnum, or Kingdom of God

  • The Paradoxes of the Highest Sciences (107 pages)   In which the most advanced truths of occultism are for the first time revealed (in order to reconcile the future developments of science and philosophy with the eternal religion). Religion is magic, sanctioned by authority; Liberty is obedience to the Law; Love is the realization of the impossible; Knowledge is the ignorance or negation of Evil; Reason is God; The imagination realizes what it invents; The Will accomplishes everything which it does not desire. • [ recommended ] Initiation into Hermetics @300cr Sacred Magick Edition (201 pages) synopsis Initiation into Hermetics provides step by step instruction in the form of practical exercises. These exercises lead to the development of body, soul and spirit. The result of the practical exercises is the development of occult abilities which can be of benefit to the student, in as far as he can change his existence for the better | IHH Commentary by Rawn Clark (99 pages)

  • [ recommended ] The Practice of Magical Evocation @300cr Sacred Magick Edition (350 pages) synopsis In magical terms, the book is a practical guide to the proper evocation of and communication with spiritual, magical and divine entities. It is perhaps the only truly significant modern study of direct contact with the universal teachers -- the other major works in the field are products of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation periods. But beyond that, there is a fascinating glimpse into a complete magical universe. Bardon outlines a totally new and original hierarchy of magic, from the spirits of the four elements to those of the various planets, and even to each degree of the zodiac. Included with the names and descriptions of the various entities are a collection of previously unknown magical sigils, as well as a true account of ancient astrology| PME Commentary by Rawn Clark (24 pages)

    Extracts:

  • The Key to the True Quabbalah (159 pages) synopsis In the Key to the True Kabbalah, Franz Bardon demonstrates that mysticism of letters and numbers -- the true Kabbalah -- is a universal teaching of great antiquity and depth. Throughout the ages, adepts of every time and place have achieved the highest levels of magical attainment through the understanding of sound, color, number and vibration as embodied in the Kabbalah. This book, the third in Bardon's remarkable texts of Hermetic magic, is nothing less than a practical guide to such attainment.  KTQ Commentary by Rawn Clark

  • The Golden Book of Wisdom (13 pages)

  • [ recommended ] Frabato the Magician (138 pages) @200cr synopsis Though cast in the form of a novel, Frabato the Magician is in fact the spiritual autobiography of Franz Bardon, one of the 20th century's greatest Hermetic adepts. Frabato was the author's stage name during his career as a performing magician, and it is Frabato who occupies center stage in the novel as well. Set in Dresdent, Germany, in the early 1930s, the story chronicles Frabato's magical battles with the members of a powerful and dangerous black lodge, his escape from Germany during the final desperate days of the Weimar Republic, and the beginning of the spiritual mission which was to culminate in Franz Bardon's classic books on Hermetic magic. More than an occult novel, Frabato the Magician is itself a work of magic which illuminates Bardon's other books as well as providing a revealing look into the dark occult forces which lay behind the rise of the Third Reich.

There is very good reason for this. These books are powerful, and were considered so dangerous that for many years, rare copies could only be found in certain libraries, locked away from the general public and from those who would use (or misuse) its power. The original set of books was first published in 1801 by its author, Francis Barrett, who had an extensive background in the medieval and occult sciences. He spent many years of diligent study before releasing them. His premise for the material, that is, before putting anything into these books, Barrett first subjected the various theories to certain tests that had to be "substantiated by nature, truth, and experiment" first. They were written for those seeking the key to the philosopher's stone and the powers of magic. The illustrations in this book were taken from ancient and medieval texts, magical tables, planetary tables, talismans and images of angels and demons. Book One covers natural magic, amulets and charms, potions, precious stones, lights, candles, alchemy, the philosopher's stone, transmutation, the four elements, numbers, and planets. Book Two covers magnetic powers, Cabalistic magic, the names of angels and spirits, the performing of invocations, conjuring spirits, magic circles, receiving oracles in dreams, positive and evil spirits, and concludes with a major biographical section on the great magicians of history.

Gurdjieff + profile

  • Beezlebub's Tales (1135 pages) Like Joyce's Ulysses this book is a lifetime's work to understand. In response to the over-intellectualization of western man Gurdjieff set out to 'bury the dog deeper'. This first part of Gurdjieff's 3 point attack is designed to break western man's way of thinking. A real head twister.

This mammoth and cosmological epic examines human life on Earth from the viewpoint of beings belonging to a distant world, led by the "all-wise Beelzebub". The reader is given a detailed discussion of all matters physical, natural, and spiritual, from the creation of the cosmos to man's teleological purpose in the universe.

  • Life is Real Only Then (186 pages) This volume is mainly autobiographical, and includes a series of talks that he gave to his pupils. Gurdjieff's gives his own views on the answers to 'Life, the Universe and Everything'.

  • Meetings with Remarkable Men (305 pages) Right around the turn of the 20th century, G.I. Gurdjieff initiated a group of spiritual adventurers called the "Seekers of Truth". These intrepid intellectuals of every stripe criss-crossed Africa and Asia in search of the hidden mysteries of antiquity. In Meetings with Remarkable Men, Gurdjieff narrates their exploits while drawing portraits of these extraordinary figures (including one woman and a dog). Half travel journal, half autobiography, Meetings with Remarkable Men begins with Gurdieff's childhood, when he finds his book learning at odds with paranormal events that were self-evidently real but inexplicable through modern science. Later he discovers a map of "pre-sands Egypt" and evidence of the Sarmound Brotherhood, alleged keepers of ancient wisdom dating back four-and-a-half millennia. He climbs the Himalayas, follows the Nile, and is led blindfolded to a mysterious monastery. In his encounters with dervishes, monks and fakirs, Gurdjieff recovers the wisdom he seeks, by comparison with which European understanding, he says, is backwards and barbaric.

  • The Herald of Coming Good (87 pages) In Herald of Coming Good Gurdjieff portrays himself as a black magician in contrast to his role a white magician in Life is Real Only Then When 'I am'. In terms of Gurdjieff's Law of Three, these books convey two opposing results of the processes expressed in his other two books, Beelzebub's Tales To His Grandson, which expresses a negative or destructive force, and Meetings With Remarkable Men which expresses a positive or creative force. Herald is the expression of a negative result, or in Gurdjieffian teaching terms, a negative third force leading to devolution, while Life expresses the result from a positive or evolutionary third force.
