Tools of Evokation
Hey all! Wondering what tools everyone out there considers
essential to an evocation. What do you use or don't you bother to
use? Do you make a physical circle? Did you make the elemental
tools or just buy them? Please no tools vs. no tools/intent
argument. I just wanna poll the mages' to see what their fav tools
are. For example who here uses the ring of Solomon? wear special
robes or nothing at all? do you use a special tool of your own
invention??

If your doing evocation than of course your going to need tools,
do you want me to p.m. the websites that you'll need to get the
tools?

cant you just list some here?

The list of tools would really depend on your method of evokation.
For example if you use the book Summoning Spirits method using the
Opening by Watchtower you would need all the elemental tools. If
you'd rather solomon's method you would need to bust out with the
sword, crown, pentacles, etc.
You can dress it up or down as much as you'd like but bare minimum
you are going to need a circle and a triangle either physical or
astral. Check out Bardon's work on evokation for some good ideas.
Crowley also goes into great depths about the tools in Book 4.

Did you just learn to read today, nero? I asked What tools if any
do you use. What is your opinion on their necessity. I did not say
"hey superior mages bless me with links to shop AOL". READ the
post, THEN respond.

sorry nero.

No problem...
The point of my first post was to point out the fact that many
people use different tools and it just depends on first the method
you use and second your personal preference. I just listed some
books that should give you some ideas about how to narrow that
down for you. No money needed or shop aol, all those books are
listed for free under I AM's pdf list.

(wow gryz is such a jerk tonight) sorry all. I should have picked
another lifetime to quit smoking. grrrr. Anyway in the library
there's plenty of instructions on all the aspects of evocation. I
was just curious if anyone out there uses them in creative ways.
I've read of people drawing the circle on clear plastic for
example. I spoke to someone once that would not DARE do a thing
without his ring of Solomon. Everybody is different. Everyone goes
about it along similar lines I just wanna steal lil tidbits of
info!! hehe. Really. I'm not looking for shortcuts or tips here.
Thats in every goetia forum. So if you wear your ring of solomon
on your big toe while scrying into a triangle (or rectangle?)
holler back.

To further the discussion I will explain more.
For me I think the bare minumum needed is the circle and the
triangle. Read Bardon's chapter on the circle and the triangle and
you will understand why I believe this. He gives an excellent
discussion on it. The circle is needed for personal protection. I
have heard of people not using one and I think that is pure
madness. The triangle contains the spirit from roaming around your
house. The combination of the two sets up the correct positions of
you as the divine and the spirit subjected to it.
I have never used a physical circle but always a physical
triangle. Odd yes but is a personal preference.
If you are working with something nasty a magick sword would be
nice, but since I am going through a phase where I do not use many
tools IMO a good vibration of the divine name of Geburah will
cover the symbolic reasons of the sword.

interesting. Could you go into more detail about this? Vibrating
Geburah as a substitution for the sword. Sounds fascinating
Nero 08-02-2004 10:19 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Careful there chief. That is just a theory of mine that has not
been fully tested. It works well against an elemental king but
they usually don't give you a problem. I have never tried it
against a Goetia demon or such.
The magick sword has a lot of symbolism surronding it but the main
use is a symbol of Geburah, severity and strength. Boil all that
symbolism down and a good Elohim Gebor should do the trick in
theory. I repeat, in theory...

::Magus stands within a circle lit by candles... a malevolent form
emanating from the triangle signals that Andras and Lucifer have
arrived... The circle is instantly surrounded by howling black
legions and the magus laughs and holds up his copy of Modern
magick.... with panic he flips around until on page 88 he finds
what he was looking for... He points to a picture of the tree of
life and holds the book out in triumph as a cloven hoof steps into
the circle "You can't hurt me!!" he roars, "I KNOW where GEBURAH
is!!!! AhAHAhHAAAA!!!!"

Ive done evokations with full ritual garb, im talking rings,
crowns, swords, etc, etc. Ive done evokations using only my
pointing finger (to trace astral triangle and circle). But usually
Ive found what works best for me is to use my alter, dagger, small
censor (to brun insence) and my staff (solomonic sword if im
evoking any malevolent spirits). Sometimes a physical circle, and
somtimes a "triangle of the art".

No reason to get snide. It is just a theory. You asked and I
answeared. And being able to correctly apply the force of Geburah
is not the same thing as knowing where it is...

I thought you'd think that was funny. : ( Ok i'm not funny. I
guess I was saying I know what you mean its a theory and I made an
attempt to illustrate through humor what could happen with
misinterpreted information. Funny huh?? no?
Nero 08-02-2004 11:13 AM

Sorry I didn't understand it was a joke. I thought you were
mocking me.
And yes all theories can go to hell in a short period of time when
it really matters. That is why constant testing at every step is
needed. My idea's are in constant flux so I rarely share them.
This was one of the few times that I had and I got the wrong idea.
Gryzlgreedigutt 08-02-2004 11:19 AM

My fault man I didn't know. Its still an interesting Idea and
frankly thats what i wanna see in this thread not the usual
rehashed stuff. you seem like a smart as heck guy I encourage you
to share more ideas with the forum. A lot of people here are very
knowledgable and might give you a different perspective on this
and other ideas that could help. ...So It really wasn't funny?
